A Roseburg man claims he lost consciousness before driving his car into a fence in northwest Roseburg on Wednesday, according to police.
Just before 2:30 p.m., Colton Eric Backen, 23, told police he was driving south on Northwest Keasey Street when he lost consciousness for an unknown reason.
Police say Backen’s vehicle then crossed the northbound lane and drove through a wood cedar fence in the 1400 block of Northwest Ulrich Court, Roseburg.
The vehicle, a gray Ford Edge, suffered from minimal damage and was driven from the scene.
Backen was charged on suspicion of careless driving, failure to maintain a lane and failure to install an ignition interlock device — a device that requires the driver to blow into the mouthpiece of the device before starting the vehicle.
In January, Backen was arrested on suspicion of oxycodone possession and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
There were no reports of injuries from the crash.
